Can Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller be Used with 6-Way to 7-Way Adapter

Question:

I have a 2004 Ford E350 15 passenger Van that has the factory hitch and 6 pin plug. Can i use this if I get a 6 pin to 7 way adapter? I would like to switch this between a couple of vehicles and would prefer not to have to do any wiring.

Hey Bret, yes you can use the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 with a 6-way to 7-way adapter like what you mentioned. Since all of the circuits end up matching correctly in the 7-way that the Mobile installs in the Echo will work just fine. This will make it easier to switch between multiple vehicles like you mentioned as well. How many vehicles would you be switching it between?

I don’t recommend this brake controller. What they don’t tell you is that is operates manually. So, every time you want to engage the trailer brakes, you have to take a hand off the wheel and touch the controller. I’m going with a hard wired one. This was a waste of good money.

I purchased the Echo modulator for my 2025 GMC Acadia with a factory trailer package. My intent was to splice my old modulator harness into the Acadia. I could not find the correct harness. This car came with auto drive and I was overwhelmed with the many harnesses under the dash. I elected to try the Echo and was completely satisfied with the application. Perhaps users should watch several Utube videos to get comfortable with the Echo. I did.

@LauraR That's not how it is supposed to work. If yours is doing that I would suspect there's an issue with the 7-way you have and it has corrosion that needs to be sanded off.

I used the Curt Echo on a 2020 F150 and it worked beautifully, both manual and automatic. It took a little bit of tuning for our specific load, but that was easy thru the app. I don't foresee any trouble switching to our other tow vehicles; since the Echo works by Bluetooth, as long as the 7-pin is in good shape, it should do fine. The only thing I would recommend is to give the Echo some extra mechanical support. Even though our connector was fresh, the Echo did shake loose once over the course of a 400-mile trip.
