Hey Dennis, welcome back! The correct front hitch for your 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 is the Curt item # 31604. This hitch is custom fit for your truck and includes all necessary hardware to complete the installation. It has a 2" receiver that provides a 9,000 lbs line pull capacity for a winch, a 500 lbs vertical load limit for accessories like a cargo carrier, and finally a 5,000 lbs gross trailer weight if you're planning on using the front hitch to move a trailer.
What do you plan on using your new front hitch for?

I used for a front cargo box for added storage for my slide-in camper/truck set up. Never enough storage. Ran some cargo straps from front corners of carrier up to grill guard to ease load hitch/carrier connection and to reduce "wobble" wear and tear when going down the road.
