Electrical Panel Box With AC To DC Converter For RV / Cargo Trailer Remodel

Updated 01/13/2026 | Published 01/07/2026

Question:

I’m doing a cargo trailer or older RV remodel and don’t mind modifying the cutout. Would one of these PowerMax power centers still work even though they are replacements for certain WFCO modelS?

Ryan, absolutely - if you’re open to modifying the cutout or building fresh cabinetry, power centers like the PowerMax 45A # PM47VR, 55A # PM67VR, or 60A # PM77VR work very well in custom builds and remodels.

In those cases, the exact replacement list WF-8945, WF-8955, WF-8900, etc. matters less because you’re not constrained by the original opening. What does matter is matching the AC service 30-amp vs 50-amp and choosing a DC converter size that fits your battery setup.

Many DIY builders choose these PowerMax units specifically because they combine AC distribution, DC fusing, and charging into one clean install. What kind of shore power are you planning to run - 30A or 50A? And what electrical loads and which batteries do you plan to use? I can narrow everything down for you.

I’m planning on 30-amp shore power and a couple lithium batteries. I don’t need the wireless stuff, just something simple and reliable.

@Nathan Hey Nathan! In that case, the # PM67VR would be my pick. It keeps you at 30-amp service, gives you stronger battery charging for lithium, and still combines the AC breakers and DC fuses into one clean panel without any extra features you don’t need. Keep in mind, you'd need to upgrade your battery cables going from the charger to the battery when you go with a bigger converter.
