Can Awning Fabric Be Glued Back Together If It Starts To Separate?

Question:

I have what I am assuming is the same style of awning on my 2021 Grand Design Reflection 310RLS and it looks like the fabric is separating from the channel/ gimp at the roller end of the awning by about 18 inches. The previous owner tried to duct tape it to hold but Im wondering if I could try to reglue the fabric to the plastic channel portion? The fabric is in great shape so I dont want to replace the entire thing.

Hey Jason, thanks for reaching out. You can try to glue it but, in my experience, there isn't really a reliable way to reattach the fabric once it starts to separate. The fabric is originally bonded and mechanically captured at the factory, and adhesives or tape (like duct tape) usually only work short term before heat, tension, and wind cause it to fail again. There really isn’t a “by-the-book” repair for that connection. Trying to glue it back in may buy you a little time, but it’s likely to let go again, especially once the awning is deployed.

The proper long-term fix is replacing just the fabric, not the entire awning assembly. If this is something you want to look into just let me know.

What is the width of your awning?

Hi Jesse, My awning measures 20’ between the centre of the arms. What would be the correct part #? And does it have a track for the led lights?

@JasonE You need it in black right? For the 20' in black we do have a replacement fabric/roller kit part # LCV000211518 but this does not have the LED track. Sadly we do not offer one if that size with the LED track.
