Upgrading Portable Heavy Steel Trailer Ramps To Permanent Folding Aluminum Ramps For Loading Cars

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 02/02/2026

Question:

I have a wide car hauler trailer and want something permanent instead of loose ramps. Are these strong enough for cars? trailer is like 7 feet wide.

Matt, for a wide car hauler trailer, you’ll be choosing between # e97XV 5 foot ramps and # e67XV 6 foot ramps, since both are designed for trailers over 6-1/2 feet wide. Each ramp is rated for 3,000 lbs, giving you 6,000 lbs total capacity per axle, which is sufficient for many passenger cars when used on a properly rated trailer.

Most car owners lean toward the 6 foot kit # e67XV because the longer ramp helps with low-clearance vehicles and reduces the chance of scraping. If you can share what kind of car you plan to load, I can help confirm which length makes the most sense.

Mostly hauling a Corvette and maybe a small race truck. Trailer deck is probably around 18 inches high.

@Matt That helps, thanks Matt. With an 18-inch deck height and low cars like that, I’d steer you toward the 6-foot kit # e67XV. The longer ramp gives you a much safer approach angle for lower front ends and helps prevent scraping compared to the 5-foot version.
