Hey James, thanks for reaching out. I was able to track down some instructions for the replacement latch kit 84-0178 for the Blue Ox tow bars. We don't have a video, so that'll be the best resource for replacing the latch handles. I'll screenshot it on here, and I'll also send it over to you in an email. The instructions mention a spring tool which is not something Blue Ox makes anymore, but a pair of needle nose pliers can be used instead.

I did not replace the handle. I have PTSD and directions are hard. Mine never came with directions. Blue Ox sent me a replacement part. I called and spoke with a women. I told her that for the price of the tow bar they should do what normal companies do. Either fix it or send me an arm replacement. Its not our job to fix there issues. She sent me a replacement arm. it took a lot of complaining. I have since purchased small springs. I wedge a spring under the handle and zip tie the spring to force the handle up. I then use a clear glue to keep the spring in place.

@Driveawaykeith Thanks for sharing that, Keith. I’m glad Blue Ox ultimately got you a replacement arm, even if it took more effort than it should have. I also appreciate you explaining the workaround you came up with, that’s a creative fix and could help someone else in a pinch. Thanks again for being open about your experience and taking the time to write it up.
