Does Curt Echo Brake Controller Come with Strap to Secure It

Question:
Have had issues with the Curt echo staying with the vehicle? Mine lasted all of 50 miles before freeing itself to the Ohio turnpike. Kinda disappointed that a 270 dollar part would so poorly designed. I noticed the “attachment” are sold a a separate item, hmmm.

Hey Chris, I am really sorry to hear about you losing your Curt Echo part # C51180! Did yours come with the strap? The early models of this brake controller didn't have that and it wasn't till later that they made it standard and come with it. If you were to order a replacement controller it would come with the strap.

I received the strap with the controller but I wouldn’t recommend using Kurt’s. I use a Velcro strap around the controller and truck side’s cover w/o issues.

When I bought my brake controller I read reviews that recommended using heavy duty zip ties instead of the strap. I have not had a problem and the controller works great.

I have over 10,000 miles of towing with the wireless break controller and have not had a problem with it uncoupling. I replaced the strap with a dog collar because I lost the strap button that held it together. The strap was a good idea, but not well constructed.

I had the strap, it failed. Needs a more robust piece or ideally a better method. Getting another strap with buying another unit does not resolve thr issue. The idea was to swap among vehicles. I can only recommend a hard wired controller for each or like cellphones an insurance policy to cover this situation. As now I use with no brakes on trailer.
