Question:

My daughter has a 2005 forest river wildcat 24rl and I believe it has a dometic ac1361 ducted ac. I need a direct replacement or what would you recommend?

Hey Russ! At this point there are no direct replacements for the old AC in your daughter's Wildcat. Everything has switched to the new R32 refrigerant following the 2025 EPA regulations so complete replacement will be required.

If you want the best replacement, the Furrion Chill Cube # FR99TD (white) or # FR39TD (black) you were looking at is definitely the best option out there right now. The Chill Cube is incredibly efficient since it takes advantage of the R32 and uses a variable speed compressor.

If you're looking for something a little more economical, the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System # ADV92SR would be a good choice.

Did the old AC bite the dust or is it just time for an upgrade?

It’s dead. Is the wiring a direct replacement?

@RussF as in, will you hook up the power to the existing wiring? You don't have to run new wire or anything like that, it just wouldn't be plug and play with the old air distribution box and thermostat. Complete replacement using the existing wiring.

@Russ that is correct, it uses an inverter-type variable-speed compressor.

I am very happy I installed the Furrion Chill Cube. But, I did find the no direct replacement unit a bit frustrating at first. It turns out the controller in the main A/C unit also controlled the furnace. I thought that was going to be a big problem. Turns out I just need to replace the Dual Zone thermostat with one for a furnace and then connected the original wires from the thermostat to those for the furnace (they were in the plenum of the original A/C). The Furrion Chill does not have a heat pump function like the original Dometic, but then I never used that function. I opted to use small electric heaters and/or propane,as required, instead. The Furrion only has control on the A/C panel and remote (need to get the kit with the remote). Now, I can remotely control the A/C units (I liked it so much I replaced the one in the bedroom). Now I don't have to open a slide to get access to the thermostat. This works at overnight rest stops when you want the A/C on. I can also control the A/C from in the bedroom and don't need to go down the step to the main area to change the temperature. These units are extremely quiet, and can be set to run at reduced power. Good for when you are on a generator or site with 30 amp power.
