A previous q/a: Blue Ox Base Plate Recommendation for a 2013 Ford C-Max Energi Question: why cant your base plate fit my c max energy and when will one be available or is it possible to be mounted if modified thanx asked by: Dave M Expert Reply: Blue Ox offers base plate # BX2639 that will fit your 2013 Ford C-Max Energi, however you are correct that the RoadMaster base plate # 524432-1 that you referenced will not fit. The installation instructions are attached. To install this base plate kit there will be a bit of drilling and trimming involved. The Blue Ox base plate will fit Blue Ox Aventa, Aladdin, Alpha and Allure tow bars. Blue Ox recommends installing the Blue Ox Tow Bar Wiring # BX8869 while you are installing the base plate. This kit gives you the signal lights without tapping into the towed vehicles electrical system. I have attached a brief installation video for you. I have also attached two FAQ articles. One is flat towing and the other is Blue Ox tow bar features. When a vehicle is new manufacturers do not have easy access to all models of that vehicle. If they cannot test it then they have to say items are not a fit until they can test it. Roadmaster has since tested base plates # 524432-1 on all models of the 2013 and 2014 Ford C-Max and they do fit all models included the hybrid and Energi models!

Next you will need a tow bar. I recommend the Falcon 2 tow bar, # RM-520, since it is one of the most popular compatible tow bars for Ford C-Max owners. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

For a lighting solution, if you will not be towing the C-Max very often I reocmmend a magnetic kit, # RM-2120. Of for a more permanent solution you can use diode kit # 154-792-118158.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the C-Max brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

For the braking system to work properly you will also need a 12 volt outlet kit, # RM-9332, and a stop light switch kit, # RM-751459.
