Does Install of etrailer Hitch Affect Handsfree Liftgate of 2025 Honda Pilot

Updated 01/14/2026 | Published 01/12/2026

Question:

On a 2025 honda pilot elite, with the lift gate sensor. Does this require a modification for the sensor to still work ? If so do you sell something like that ? I see honda lists a part number 08L91-T90-100A. Thanks

Hey Steven, the feedback we've received for the etrailer hitch part # e27KR installed on a 2025 Honda Pilot has been that it does not interfere with the handsfree liftgate. So you would not need to install any additional adapters or anything. Will you be doing any towing?

@StevenW Do you have trailer wiring already? If not, for a 4-way you'd want the part # C48ZV. A small trailer is for sure going to have a 4-way connector.

your expert reply is correct. The hands free liftgate still works with hitch receiver installed. But on a personal note don't forget to turn off automatic braking when pulling a trailer. It will throw the brakes on hard while backing up LOL

My tailgate sensor still works, but it is not as sensitive. You have to be more intentional with your foot placement to activate it. It just took a little experimenting to find the best way to get it to work.

I recently installed the hitch from trailer. And the liftgate does work with the little kick motion. The sensor is just to the left of the hitch receptacle and I do the foot kick and the lift gate opens just fine. The hitch wax very easy to install, mite need extra hand to lift it or use a jack to get it up there. It’s well manufactured. Also the electrical wiring was like a 5 min job.
