Question:
I have a 2014 Chevy 2500 with a factory brake controller. I believe the module on the frame is bad. I’m looking at buying a Tekonsha voyager brake controller. In the Video I watched it only showed hooking up wires under the dash. Do I need to place the module also for brakes to work properly ?

Hey John. If the module on the frame is bad then adding the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller w/ Plug-In Harness - 1 to 4 Axles item # TK29ER isn't going to fix your problem. The connector your factory brake controller plugs into is the same one the custom harness included with item # TK29ER is going to connect to.
To bypass that faulty module, you'll want to hardwire in the Tekonsha Voyager item # 39510 using the Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness item # 20127. You'll need to run a new wire to your 7-way connector using the 10 Gauge Wire item # 10-1-1. The red wire will connect to the cold side of your brake switch. The white wire to a suitable ground and the black wire to a 12v power source.

Installation was simple on my 2004 Grand Cherokee and the unit worked fine. I towed a 2800 lb. single axle camper, with without the controller would have been hazardous at best. I had to get used to not lightly touching the pedal as it activated the trailer brakes. For some reason, after several miles the braking force seemed to get harsher, actually locking the wheels. Maybe just reset the sensitivity level the next time out will correct it.
