Where Should Trailer Jack Stands be Used If Storing RV For Winter to Get Tires Off the Ground
Updated 12/18/2025 | Published 12/17/2025 >
Question:
Hi, I have a travel trailer 14ft stored for winter and Id like to get the tires up off the ground to avoid any negative effects. What is the recommendation for placing jack stands? Ive started with 2 in the front, one on each side of the tongue, but Im not sure where to place the other 2. Should they be at the back of the frame? somewhere in the middle of the frame, or should I place them under the axle close to where the springs attach? Do trailer/axle manufacturers have a recommendations? Thanks.

Hey Rob, there really isn't a strict guideline on where to place jacks when storing an RV for the winter to keep the tires off the ground. It really just comes down to what makes the most sense and is reasonably easy to access. I'd probably try and use the axles if you can as sometimes if you let axles hang the shackles on the leaf springs can get flipped over but even that I wouldn't worry too much about. Do you have jackstands already?
