Replacement Bushings and Wet Bolts for Slipper Springs.

Updated 12/17/2025 | Published 12/15/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a Diamond C GTF car hauler with 6000lb lippert axles. The trailer has roughly 20.000 miles on it and yesterday I noticed one of the bushings in the rear axle that bolts the leaf to the equalizer is worn out. It has slipper suspension. What are the options for new bushings, and would wet bolts help? What are other components in this suspension that are prone to wear out? This is a rental trailer so I want the best most durable option. Thanks!

Hey Viencent, thanks for the information! To replace the bushings in your slipper springs, I recommend the Dexter Bronze Bushings item # K71-291-00. These have a 11/16" outer diameter and will replace all four of the bushings on your car hauler. These are made of bronze so they'll last quite a bit longer than plastic bushings.

To upgrade to wet bolts, I recommend the Wet Equalizer Bolt with Locknut and Grease Zerk for Double-Eye Springs - 3" Long item # 126B2. This is a 3" Long x 9/16" diameter bolt with a built in grease zerk. These will hold up extremely well and make maintenance a lot easier. They're sold individually so you'll need to purchase four for your tandem axle slipper spring set up.

Leaf springs are the only other thing you really have to worry about wearing out suspension wise. If you would like to give me the dimensions of your springs and how many leafs they have, I would be happy to recommend a replacement option.

To properly measure your leaf springs, you'll want to lift up one side of your trailer by the frame to take the weight off of the suspension and then measure from the center of the eyelet straight across the spring to the end of the slipper like the picture below.

I installed the wet bolts on my enclosed single axle trailer and would recommend. Having lube vs dry bolts will significantly reduce wear. They are easy to install and the price is right.
