Can Too Much Grease be Added to Trailer Hub Using EZ Lube Spindles

Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 12/09/2025

Question:

Hi, I do have Lippert 7000 axle with Easy lube system on my TH trailer. But I do have question, if the Trailer Hub Grease Cap should be full of grease or better let there some space for grease expansion due the heat ? THX

Hey Milos, it's actually pretty easy to overfill trailer hubs with grease using the EZ lube grease fittings which then blows out the grease seal. What we've found is that if you pack the hub with grease by hand that is the actual best practice to ensure you get the correct amount in and won't have any problems. If you wanted to use the EZ lube fitting after packing by hand I would tread pretty lightly and maybe just add a small amount like a single pump while turning the wheel and you would be fine.

Hey Milos, how did things go after packing your hubs by hand and adding just a small amount through the EZ lube fitting? Your results could really help others trying to avoid overfilling their trailer hubs.

@JamesonC I pack the hub by the hand and pump the grease through the EZ lube till grease cover the nut, but still some space left in dust cap for expansion . Probably more than needed , but I rather be overfilling little than underfilling. The hub was packed pretty good with grease before and never leaked any grease from seal. I can check the seal pretty easy visually because I do have a disk brakes. Disc brakes and Roadmaster slipper spring system was best upgrade I did to my trailer. milos
