No-Lift Options For Carrying Kayaks On Roof Or Hitch For 2025 Kia Telluride

Published 11/24/2025

Question:

I’ve been using a roof rack for my kayaks, but loading them onto my 2025 Kia Telluride is tough with shoulder issues. Is there a better option?

Hey Ben! Yes, lifting kayaks onto a tall SUV like your Telluride can be awkward (and risky for your back or paint). There are two options, with the first one being to add a lift-assist like Yakima ShowDown Kayak or SUP Roof Rack and Lift Assist # Y04081. This is a really nice option if you want to the retain roof rack setup.

The best solution if you don't want to do much lifting or activity above your head is to switch to a small kayak trailer like Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL43FR paired with the TowSmart # TS84ZR hitch. It keeps loading at waist height and lets you carry multiple kayaks securely without climbing or straining. 2 kayak/canoe carriers are included with the trailer.

To wire the lights, use the Curt Harness # C93FV if you have an LX or S trim (without LED taillights), or # C29ZV for other trims, and pair it with the Ball Mount Kit # 989891.

Do you usually haul just a couple of kayaks or a full setup with paddles and gear bins?
