Is The New 2025 Kia Telluride Strong Enough To Pull A Camper?

Question:

Can I tow a small camper with my 2025 Kia Telluride using the TowSmart hitch?

You sure can, Ryan, as long as the camper is within the towing limits of the vehicle. The TowSmart # TS84ZR 2" trailer hitch receiver is rated for 5,000 lbs towing and 500 lbs tongue weight or up to 6,000 lbs and 750 lbs TW when using a weight distribution system - a great match for your Telluride’s factory tow rating of 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. I do recommend checking your Kia's owner's manual to double check that tow rating.

You’ll need a Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness for trailer lights - choose # C93FV if you have an LX or S trim no LED taillights or # C29ZV if you have an EX, SX, SX Prestige, or any other trim without the factory tow package. Add the Ball Mount Kit # 989891 and you’ll have both 2 inch and 1-7/8 inch balls to match your trailer coupler.

Do you know roughly what your camper weighs when loaded? I can help confirm you’re within safe limits.

Thanks, Andrew. My camper is right around 2,800 lbs loaded. Do I need to upgrade anything on the Telluride itself, or is the hitch and wiring enough?

@Ryan Hey Ryan, at 2,800 lbs, you’re still comfortably inside the Telluride’s 5,000-lb tow rating, so you don’t need any vehicle upgrades beyond the hitch, wiring, and a ball mount like I mentioned in the previous answer. The only thing I’d double-check is whether your camper has electric brakes. If it does, you’d want to add a brake controller down the road, but many smaller campers don’t require one. There's a slight chance you would benefit from rear suspension enhancement or a weight distribution hitch like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # FA92-00-0450. WDH is usually recommended if the camper is at least half the weight of the tow vehicle. One more thing I found is that the owner's manual says to only tow 1,500lbs if the trailer doesn't have brakes, and up to 5,000lbs if it does have brakes. I'd check your manual to make sure, and check on the camper details for me and I can tell you exactly what you need!
