Question:

Caleb, on your 2025 Silverado 1500 (or GMC Sierra 1500) 6-1/2' bed, the JayBar ladder rack # FT97MJ handles 800lbs stationary (400lbs when in motion) evenly spread across both crossbars - perfect for kayaks, ladders, or lumber. It mounts into the Fas-Top rails (from either the # FT42MV tonneau or the # FT44EV topper), so the load distributes across the bed sides instead of one point.

What are you planning to haul – work tools or weekend toys?

Mostly kayaks. Could it handle a small rooftop tent if I decided to go that route later?

@Caleb Good question, Caleb. So weight-wise, yes, the JayBar can handle it, but the crossbars are fixed in place, not adjustable. Most rooftop tents will work for the crossbar spacing, but you’d want to double-check your tent’s mounting rail specs before ordering. The JayBar crossbars are basically mounted at the front bed rail and the rear right before the tailgate, so that's a good measurement to take to get an approximation of the crossbar spread. You can definitely use the rack for your kayaks and boards without issue since those are separate pieces and don't need to be as specific on the crossbar spread.
