Choosing Between 18k and 21k Demco Autoslide for 2026 Ram 3500 Towing 18k GVWR Toy Hauler

Updated 12/01/2025 | Published 11/03/2025

Question:

This might be a dumb question but here it goes - We’re looking at buying a toy hauler with a GVWR of 18,000 lbs. Will pull with a 2026 ram 3500 mega cab dually short bed. Truck is equipped with fifth wheel prep/puck system. Is the demco 6077 18k auto slider sufficient to carry it should I build in a margin to carry more weight and go with the 6107 21k auto slider? Thanks!

Hey Shane! That is definitely not a dumb question. The # DM69GV (6077) is fine to use as long as you don't exceed the 18,000 lb GVWR of the toy hauler. Personally, I would go ahead and get the # DM89GV (6107) with the higher rating just to be safe. This prevents any issues if you happen to overload the trailer and don't realize it. The higher rating won't hurt anything so I think it is better to be safe than sorry. This also keeps you covered if you end up with a higher rated trailer sometime in the future.

What kind of toy hauler are you looking at buying?

Hey Shane, how did things turn out with the Demco 21K auto slider for your Ram? Did it give you the confidence you were looking for when towing your toy hauler? Your update could make it easier for others choosing between the two hitches.

@RobinH thanks for the follow up. We ended up bumping up to a Brinkley which would exceed the capacity of the hitch, so I had to return it.
