Hi Charles!

That's an interesting idea, but the TruRyde #84 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # TRU77FR does need to be welded onto the axle beam. The 4 bolt holes/plate on this spindle (and all spindles for that matter) is designed for a brake to attach to it. I would not trust this plate or the plate on your current axle to handle the stress that would be exerted on them.

Have you installed a new spindle before? It can be a bit of work as you need to cut off the old one and weld the new one on. I included a link that will find local trailer repair shops near you if you do need assistance with it.

Also, what are you wanting to install this on?

Hey Charles, were you able to move forward with the new spindle for your lightweight axle? Knowing what you ended up doing could help others thinking about a similar upgrade. Your experience might point them in the right direction.
