Will 12 Ton Bottle Jack Work For Keystone 5th Wheel Offroad?

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 10/30/2025

Question:

Would this 12-ton version be overkill for a Keystone fifth wheel off road, or is it worth the extra muscle? It weighs like half of this capacity.

That’s a great question, Alvin. Even though your fifth wheel won’t come close to 12 tons total, the Tallboy # PM94FR gives you a generous safety margin and smoother control when you’re lowering heavy loads. The oversized 9-7/16 inch base plate spreads the weight out so it stays planted even on gravel or asphalt. It’s a solid investment if you service your trailer yourself or travel off-pavement - never know when you could have a blowout or need to replace hubs/bearings (knock on wood).

Are you planning to use it mainly for tire changes or maintenance at home? That’ll help confirm if this or the 6-ton model makes more sense for your setup.

Mostly tire changes and the occasional bearing service when we’re out west. We do a lot of boondocking, so I need something that won’t sink in the dirt.

@Alvin Perfect, Alvin - the 12-ton Tallboy is exactly what you want for that. The big footplate keeps it solid even on softer ground, and it’s way steadier than those skinny bottle jacks most folks carry.
