10" 4,400lb Replacement Brake Assemblies For Dexter Tow Assist On Small Travel Trailer

Published 10/28/2025

Question:

I’m replacing brakes on my small travel trailer with 4,400-lb Dexter Tow Assist axles. Are the 10inch ABS brakes a straight swap?

Yes, Rob, for 4.4K Tow Assist axles you’ll want the 10 inch Dexter ABS brakes # DX83WR. They use the same 4-bolt flange as your original setup and connect directly to the existing harnesses/plugs. Just torque the nuts to 45–50 ft-lbs and spin the hub to make sure the sensor isn’t contacting the tone ring before lowering the trailer since you don't want to damage that. If the sensor gets damaged, you'll have to get one from Dexter.

Will you be swapping both axles, or just one for now?

Anyone else with Dexter Tow Assist - how’s the ABS working with your tow vehicle’s controller?
