Replacement Dexter Tow Assist Brakes For 2024 Forest River RiverStone With 8K Axles

Question:

I have a 2024 Forest River RiverStone with Dexter Tow Assist. Will the 8K brake assemblies fit both axles?

Alan, yes - the RiverStone fifth wheels use tandem 8K Dexter Tow Assist axles, so the # DX55WR assemblies are the correct replacements for all four hubs. Just replace them in pairs per axle to keep braking balanced.

If your system shows an amber light after install, it usually just means one ABS sensor plug isn’t fully seated - unplug and reseat both sides and it’ll clear automatically. Let me know how it goes, and safe travels with that super nice RV!

Appreciate it, Andrew. I just finished swapping both axles with the DX55WR assemblies and everything went smooth. The green light came back on after the first power-up, so looks like it’s happy again. These feel solid already after the first test drive.

@Alan That’s awesome to hear, Alan - sounds like you nailed the install. The Tow Assist system does that quick self-check every trip, so that solid green light is exactly what you want to see. After a few more miles, the self-adjusters will fine-tune the shoe clearance, and braking will settle in perfectly. Did you do the proper break-in procedure yet? You get up to speed and apply the breaks hard a few times, then let them cool off and do it again, then eventually they'll be broken in and smoother. If you get a chance, let us know how it feels after a couple hundred miles of towing - always great to hear real-world feedback!
