Can Aluminum Trailer Wheel Be Used With Steel Wheels On Same Axle?
Published 10/15/2025 >
Question:
Can I mix the MXS67FR aluminum wheel with my existing steel wheels on the same axle?

Expert Reply:
Only short-term, Mike. The tire size and load rating will match, but aluminum and steel wheels flex differently under load and have different weights, so it’s best to keep them uniform so the axle is smooth and working as intended. You could use the # MXS67FR as a spare or start replacing one axle at a time, but as I said, it's best to keep the same wheel all the way around, so that's what I'd do.
What trailer do you have? What exactly are you trying to do?
