Dimensions of Andersen Weight Distribution Shank

Updated 10/01/2025 | Published 09/30/2025

Question:

I pull a lightweight trailer a Forest River Wolf Pup, about 3,500 lbs with a Ford Bronco and am interested in a weight distribution hitch to level out the trailer and tow vehicle. I dont like the idea of the noise of the steel friction bars on many of these. The Blue Ox Sway Pro looks good but is expensive. So Im looking at the Andersen AN28VR. Can you give me the dimensions of the shank piece? I need to know if it is long enough to clear the spare tire mounted on the back of the Bronco.

Hey Dan, I attached a picture that has all of the dimensions of a similar shank that comes with the Andersen Weight Distribution System part # AN28VR that you referenced. Let me know if you will have enough clearance, are you running your current shank in the rise position?

That looks too close for comfort, so I think I should go with the shorter version AN88VR. Thanks.

@Dan Actually the shank in that picture is the 6 hole shank that is in the # AN88VR. I added it to this page to show the overall length horizontally as I thought that was the dimension you were looking for.
