Hi Diane; there is no recommended table top size for the Telescoping Dinette Table Leg # TX73VJ. You can use whatever best fits the space you have as long as it doesn't exceed the weight capacity of 174 lbs in the lowered position or 85 lbs in the raised position. I would measure your space, account for any room you need to actually sit at the table, and go from there.
