Replacement Shackle Strap Kit to Fix Shackle Flip

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 09/14/2025

Question:

I have a 8 × 14 above wheel flat trailer. Tandem wheel 3500lbs each set. Shacle flip is a common problem with this trailer, even when bought new. e.g. no worn out parts. I was told to replace the existing shackles for longer ones. The current shackes are 2.5 center hole to center hole. And only a 1/4 thick. What size do you recommended. Thanks

Hey John. To upgrade your trailer's 2-1/2" shackles, I recommend the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps item # MR46ZR. This upgraded kit has 1/2" thick shackles that are 2-1/4" long. The wet bolts included also have built in grease zerks for easy maintenance.

Not sure how old your trailer is but equalizer you have but have you considered upgrading it and replacing the springs while you have the suspension all taken apart?

Hey John, did the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit work out for your trailer? I'm curious to know if the longer shackles and thicker straps helped with the shackle flip issue. Your experience could really help others facing similar problems!
