Do Fogatti Quiet RV Furnaces Use Much 12V Power When Off Grid Camping?

Published 09/08/2025

Question:

Do these Fogatti furnaces FG55FR, FG45FR, FG65FR use much 12V power when you’re off grid? Or is it just when they’re starting up? I know the wired thermostat/controller needs power too.

Hey Kevin, the Fogatti furnaces only pull noticeable 12V power when the blower motor and igniter are running. On average, you’re looking at about 7–8 amps while it’s firing and pushing heat. When it’s idle, the wired controller/thermostat draws a very small trickle - so little it won’t put a dent in your battery bank much at all.

Where folks get surprised is if they’re boondocking in freezing temps: the furnace will cycle on and off through the night, and that steady blower draw can add up. That’s why many RVers pair their furnace with at least a 100Ah battery AGM or lithium to comfortably cover overnight use.

Are you planning to run a single battery setup, or do you already have a bank for off-grid? That’ll help us fine-tune your expectations.

Also, let me know if you need an access/service door on the outside of your unit with White # FG65FR or Black # FG45FR, or if you just need a doorless option for inside service with # FG55FR.
