Is it Safe for 4-Way Trailer Plug to be Installed Permanently Near my Hitch Receiver?

Question:
You sold me wiring and lights for my trailer. I view your firm as experts in your field. With that, I have question. I had a local U Haul company install the wiring for a trailer hitch under my 2000 Buick Lesabre attached to the hitch exposing it to the elements. I expected the wiring to be in the trunk away from the elements. Is attaching it under the vehicle safe? In your opinion is it better to have the wiring in the trunk? Or, is having the wiring under the vehicle considered normal today? Thank you for your help and valued opinions,

Hey Brett, it's good to hear from you again!
I personally like having the 4-Way mounted next to the receiver that way it's ready and waiting for when I need it. As long as you have a cover over the plug, like the Curt # C58200, you'll be just fine. I used the brackets # 18144 and # C83DR to secure the wiring connector on my vehicle.
You certainly can keep it stored inside your trunk, but my main issue with that route is that you have to be more careful where the wiring hangs, so the trunk doesn't damage the wiring when it's closed on it.
If you're still concerned about it, you can slap some Dielectric Grease # 11755 on the wiring connector to further help protect it from the elements in addition to the cover I mentioned above.
Did U-Haul use brackets to attach it under your vehicle?

Hey Brett, did you find out if U-Haul used brackets to attach the wiring under your vehicle? I'm asking because it could help others who are considering similar installations.
