Can I Use Patriot Adjustable Ball Mount # PH94FR With 8,000lb Trailer?
Published 09/02/2025 >
Question:
I’m pulling a 8,000 lb car hauler with my Ford F-250. Is this hitch strong enough or should I look at a 2-1/2inch shank? I may not need the adjustable ball mount part with this particular trailer. most of trailers I pull are smaller.

Greg, you’re right in the # PH94FR sweet spot. With the 2-5/16 inch ball it’s rated for 10k lbs when using it in the straight shank method, so your 8K lb hauler is well within range. If you need the adjustable height adapter, this capacity drops down to 7K lbs though so you wouldn't want to do that.
I think you may be better off with the Patriot # PH93NR which is the same think in black, and rated for 10k instead.
What do you think, Greg?
