Will The Thule UpRide Roof Bike Rack TH599000

Updated 09/04/2025 | Published 08/28/2025

Question:

Good Morning, Just wanting to confirm that this will fit the Yakima HD crossbars Part Y01159 since they are both a T slot system. Additionally what is the maximum spread of the crossbars this bike rack will allow? Thank you for your support and guidance.

Hi Allen!

The Thule UpRide Roof Bike Rack - Wheel Mount - Clamp On or Channel Mount - Aluminum # TH599000 will definitely fit in the T-Slots of the Yakima HD Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 78" Long - Qty 2 # Y01159. The slots are fairly standard and the T-Bolts that come with the UpRide are also fairly standard. This is actually something we have test-fit, so you are good to go!

What kind of bike will you be carrying?

Hi Lazer S, Thank you for the information and taking the time to reply. It's very much appreciated. In further research I see a number of customer reviews on Thule's site around some concerns on bike security while driving. There was not one but quite a few reviews stating the front wheel carriage system loosed resulting in bikes falling over while driving. I just can't risk something like that. I'll be carrying bikes for my two boys. One is a standard size adult mountain bike but my youngest has a bike with a 20" wheel. Hence my backpedal (pun intended) from Yakima's High Road as the smallest wheel it carries is 26". This brought me to the Thule which can handle a 20" wheel. However with my now raised concern of Thule's carriage failure troubles I've found Yakima's Front Loader which is described as having the capacity for 20" wheels as well. Any feedback you'd like to share on the Front Loader bike rack from your experiences?

@AllenN I hadn't gone through the reviews for the UpRight before and wasn't aware of the issues with it, so thanks for pointing that out. Thule works with us pretty closely for things and I will be bringing this up with them to see if maybe a redesign is in order. They are usually good about this kind of thing. As to the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier - Roof Mount # Y02103, we have carried this for a long time and have very good reviews for it. You will always be able to find horror stories for anything online, but I couldn't find many for this rack (yes, there were some). With all that being said, the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack - Frame Mount - Clamp On or Channel Mount - Aluminum # TH598004 holds bikes in a different way and could be an alternative. It's been on the market since 2019 and has good reviews. We also have the Kuat Piston SR Roof Bike Rack for 1 Bike - Wheel Mount - Aluminum # KU32VR which is newer than that (2023), but works with 18" to 29" wheels and could be the best option. It is a lot more expensive though. Have you thought about going with a hitch mounted rack? I have always found them to be the most secure.
