7-Way Wiring for 2019 Kia Sorento With Tekonsha Primus Brake Controller

Updated 08/28/2025 | Published 08/27/2025

Question:

Hello, We have a Tekonsha Primus R-T90160 brake controller. We need a wiring kit complete with a 7-pin socket and mounting bracket to install it in our 2019 Kia Sorento. Our trailer has a standard 7-pin plug. Looking at the plug the blade sockets would be as follows: 1:00 oclock position Brown tail lights, 3:00 position Yellow left turn, 5:00 position White ground, 7:00 position Blue brakes, 9:00 position Green right turn and 11:00 position Red or Black 12 VDC. The KIA has the factory sockets at the back drivers side just like in the installation video. Please advise the correct wiring kit part number so that we can get this controller hooked up. Please send answer to email. Thanks

Hey Tony! Since you have the factory connector on your 2019 Kia Sorento the correct wiring harness is the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter # TK24FR. This will match up with your trailer connector and also allow for a plug and play installation with your brake controller.

What kind of trailer are you towing?

Thanks, Robin. My only concern, and the reason why I specified the current wiring setup, was that in the video that I watched the Yellow wire was connected to the center pin, which would not work with my more standard setup. If I were to use the TK24FR, would I wire it as it says in the video and then need an adapter, or can it just be wired the standard way? I hope that you understand my point. Best regards, Tony S.

@TonyS I wouldn't get caught up in the colors. As long as the functions match up everything will work as intended. From what you described they will. It is a little easier to see this if you look at the color codes in the attached article. Colors can be different for the same functions.

Okay, Robin, we'll go ahead and order the TK24FR
