I noticed this doesn’t come with a padlock. Do I need a special kind to fit the hasp?

Good question, Dana. The Cam-Action 36" Latch # M393FR has a standard lock tab that’ll take most trailer-style padlocks, disc locks or weather-resistant shrouded padlocks are the most popular since they’re harder to cut. You don’t need anything proprietary.
Do you already have locks you’re using on your trailer, or are you looking to upgrade that too? If you need one, I'd go with something like # TMX64QR to keep everything theft-resistant.
For others who’ve used this latch - which padlock style has held up the best outdoors?
