Leaf Springs and Upgraded Equalizer for 2023 Highland Open Range 26BHS

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/20/2025

Question:

Good morning, I have a 2023 Highland Open range 26BHS. It has 3500 lb axles. In one year I have had it out about 7 times no futher than 1 hour away and never overloaded as we use it for me and my gf only. On our trip last week I noticed the right side leaf springs are both flat and virtually no arc. I am wondering what you may suggest as an upgrade for springs and would you also suggest an improved spring equalizer? Thanks for your assistance with this. Let me know if you need any further information to help me with this.

Hi Greg; sorry to hear your leaf springs went flat. It is a bit odd that it was just on one side too, I wouldn't expect that even if you have a really heavy kitchen or slide-out. You can upgrade the leaf springs a bit without impacting ride quality but you're going to need to match the length. If you can measure the flat length I can see what is available. See the attached picture and article linked below.

Upgraded equalizers are designed to smooth out the ride so if that is what you're looking for they're a nice upgrade. I wouldn't expect them to make a noticeable improvement in the life of your leaf springs. The best option is typically the one that matches your current equalizer length measured left to right bolt hole on center. A fairly common size is the Dexter E-Z Flex # K71-652-00. This measures 5-3/4". It also comes with 1/2" thick 2-1/4" shackles and wet bolts for a complete upgrade.

If you add your measurements in the comments below we can go from there.
