Parts Needed to Install Disc Brakes on a Trailer with Drum Brakes

Updated 06/20/2014 | Published 06/19/2014

Question:

What is the distance from the inner bearing shoulder to the hub face for the Dexter 8-231-9UC1-EZ idler hub? Can this hub be used with the Kodiak K2R712E disc brake kit to provide proper fit and spacing between the caliper and rotor. Im looking to change out from electric drum brakes.

The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R712E is designed to work on idler hubs exactly like the Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-231-9UC1-EZ that you referenced. These parts are totally compatible with each other and I can assure you that the spacing between the caliper and rotor will be the correct.

Typically when someone is going from drum brakes to disc the preferred method is to go with hub and rotor disc brake kits. For that you would instead want the part # K2HR79E.

I attached an FAQ on adding disc brakes to a trailer that you should find very informative.
