What Leaf Springs Do I Need For 1998 Roadrunner Trailer?

Question:

I have a 1998 roadrunner trailer, I replaced the square axle with a round axle and now the trailer seems to be lower and tires are hitting the top of the fenders on bumpy roads, causing blow outs over time, I removed the leaf springs they are 3 leaf and the bushings were completely wore out, I am wondering if a 4 leaf spring will raise the trailer, the springs removed measure 26.5 center to center eye, do you think they were 26 and flattened out to 26.5, I am seeing more common springs are 25 1/4 would it be possible the 3 leaf spring set up was flattened out to 26.5, I am needing a pair of springs for my trailer, what would you recommend?

Hello Abel, thanks for reaching out. So leaf springs can flatten out and flex up to 1" longer than the original measurement. I do not think your springs were originally 25-1/4". It is more likely they were around 26" originally.

Replacing a 3-leaf spring with a 4-leaf will lift the trailer a tiny bit higher, but you are talking about only 3/8" or the thickness of one leaf.

As far as recommending a spring, I will need to know the weight capacity of your axle. For example, the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e22YR is 26" long and is for a 4,000 lb axle. We need to make sure the new spring are appropriately rated for the trailer, so that is the last piece of the puzzle we need.

i was able measure again and I came up with eye to eye at 26", I know after 27 years of use these springs had to have flattened out some, the bushings are completely worn and the tires are riding to close to the upper fender and rub on bumps, its a 3500lb single axle trailer.

@AbelL Ok yes so your springs were originally probably 25 ish inches long. We do offer a good replacement for this. I recommend the following: - 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e54SR You will want to get new U-bolts as well and for that use part # CE23002
