Which Hitch Bike Rack Style Is Best For Short Frame 41" Wheel Base Electric Bike?

Updated 08/26/2025 | Published 08/06/2025

Question:

I’ve got a short wheelbase e-bike, only 41”. Will that still mount securely? or should I use a hanging rack instead or a frame mount rack. thank you

Hello Devin, these Hollywood Racks Crosstrack bike racks are compatible with wheelbases up to 52”, so anything shorter like 41" fits just fine. Just slide the wheel trays inward so both tires are firmly seated, and the hook will still secure over the front wheel.

Are you looking for a 1 or 2 bike rack? We have a few variations depending on what you are looking for:
2" Hitch 1 Bike # HLY98RR
2" Hitch 2 Bike # HLY38RR
1-1/4" & 2" Hitch 1 Bike # HLY68RR
1-1/4" & 2" Hitch 2 Bike # HLY48RR

As far as switching to a hanging, I wouldn't do that since most hanging racks don't have the weight capacity for an ebike. And the frame mount racks work fine too, but I prefer the wheel mount like the above options from Hollywood Racks since they work with just about any style of bike, including step through and carbon frame (no frame contact). Let me know what you think!

Is this good for kids bikes?

@JoeyW This does have a wide range of wheelbases that it fits, so it is great for kids bikes. The only bike issue is one with fenders since the bar secures onto the wheel and a fender would interfere. These Hollywood racks will be great for your kids bikes.

@NickS so my 7 year old son has a Mongoose Legion L20 Kids BMX Bike and 4 year old has a Trek precaliber 12. Will I have issues fitting both on the rack?

@JoeyW I took a look at both of those bikes and yes they will fit that rack. The wheel size and wheelbase are perfect for that rack you will have no issues.
