Parts Needed To Use Thule Hullavator On 2002 Ford Explorer And On 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/28/2025

Question:

What parts do I need and what length bars to use a hullavator on a 2003 Ford Explorer with a raised factory roof rack? Same question for use on a 2024 VW Tiguan with a raised factory roof rack. Thank you!

Hello Gayle, thanks for reaching out. I can definitely help you with this. You will want to use a longer than standard crossbar to accommodate the Hullavator# TH898. Here is what I recommend:

2003 Ford Explorer with factory raised rails:

- Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised Side Rails - Aluminum - 65" Long - Black # MAL24AR

2024 Volkswagen Tiguan with factory raised rails:

- Yakima TimberLine Roof Rack for Raised Rails - JetStream Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - Qty 2 # Y42GD

Both systems will have long enough crossbars to support the Hullavator without contacting the side of the vehicle. Which vehicle will you be towing with primarily? What kind of Kayak do you have? Just curious.

Hey Gayle, did you decide which roof rack system to go with for your Ford Explorer or VW Tiguan? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you and if it made loading your kayak easier. Let me know if you need any more help!
