Replacement Axles and Hub Assemblies

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/21/2025

Question:

I need to replace two axles and wheel assembly’s on my boat trailer. Is this something I can do myself, or let the pro’s do it. They want 4-5k for the job. I’m hoping the brakes I got from you are still good. I don’t have the trailer to look at. I’m relatively skilled. Your videos helped. The only thing I don’t do is welding. What would be the chance I would f this up ? Difficulty level ? What do you think ?

Hey Roger. I would be more than happy to get you all the parts you need and show you as many installation videos as I possibly can but I have no idea what your skill level is or the tools you have access to. Just because I think this is a DIY job doesn't mean it's going to be for you.

Are you wanting to replace the axle, hubs, and brakes? I didn't see any brake part orders. Do you have electric or hydraulic brakes? Do those need to be replaced as well?

What about the suspension meaning leaf springs, equalizers, and shackle straps?

Does the $4k-$5k quote include all the parts?

I have linked a couple of FAQ articles below that will walk you through the processes you'll need to identify the size of your axles and how to replace them. I recommend taking a look at them and watching some videos online to see if this is a job you're capable of taking on.

Hey Roger, did you get a chance to check out the FAQ articles and videos to see if you're comfortable with the axle replacement? I'm curious if you found them helpful in deciding whether to tackle the job yourself. Let me know how it goes, as your experience could really help others in a similar situation!
