Troubleshooting a Solera Awning Needing to Be Pushed to Retract

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/16/2025

Question:

If I fully extend my Solara Awning, I have to push up on the Awning while someone uses the Retract Button to get it moving. If I do not extend it fully, it retracts without a push. Its on a 2024 Winnebago Minnie that I purchased new in October 2025.

Hey Bill. It sounds like either your motor is going out, you've got a bent arm, or there's a voltage drop and you don't have enough power to retract the awning. Ruling out a bent or damaged arm should be pretty easy. You can use a multi-meter like item # PT89ZR to test your power supply. You should be getting 12 volts.

Have you contacted the dealership you purchased your trailer from or Lippert who manufacturer's your awning? This sounds like a warranty issue to me unless you've bent something. I would do this before replacing any parts like a motor.

Hey, did you get a chance to check if the awning arm is bent or test the power supply with a multimeter? I'm asking because I want to make sure we find the right solution for you and others who might have the same issue.
