What Disc Brake Kit do I Want to Convert from Electric to Disc on My 2022 Prime Time Crusader 335RLP

Updated 07/16/2025 | Published 07/11/2025

Question:

I’m considering upgrading the electric drum brakes on my 2022 Prime Time Crusader 335RLP to disc but am unsure what parts are needed. Do you sell a kit that includes everything I need or is it more of a part by part deal?

Hello Clair,

Looking to make the swap to disc, always a great idea!

I see that you were able to place an order already. Since you have a tandem set-up with each axle rated for 6K, going with the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers - 12" Rotor - 6 on 5-1/2 - 6K # HYD74VR is a fantastic choice.

Adding the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Hose - 1/8" ID - DOT Approved - 3/16" Male Fittings - 4' # KD47FR, T-fitting # DE54SR, and 90 degree fitting # DE94SR will ensure you have what you need to make the swap.

The only question I have, is what kind of brake controller are you using? I just want to make sure that you have the EOH (electric over hydraulic) setting that is needed to control these brakes.

I have a 2013 F250 with the factory installed brake controller, I didn’t realize that there was a difference in controllers between electric and EOH. Is that going to be a problem or will it be OK to use?

@Clair Your 2013 Ford F-250 with the factory brake controller should be all set for Electric Over Hydraulic (EOH) brakes, Ford added that feature starting in 2011, and by 2013 it was standard on most models. To double-check, just scroll through your truck’s dash menu under towing settings and look for an option to switch the trailer brake type from “Electric” to “Electric over Hydraulic.” If you see it, then you know you have it. In our experience, a lot of the OEM brake controllers have issues with the EOH setting. If you get things hooked up and have any kind of issues, I would go ahead and get an aftermarket one. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness - Up to 4 Axles - Proportional # TK25UR is an excellent choice, this is my go to for all my friends and family. The # TK25UR will even come with the vehicle specific plug-in for a very easy install on your 2013 F250. At least now if you get things hooked up, and run into an issue with the brakes not applying, you know why.

@KateF thanks Kate, I looked on the info screen of my truck and there is nothing about switching.

@Clair You will definitely need an aftermarket controller then. Glad you looked, future problem already solved =)
