Roof Rack Recommendation for 2022 Ford Explorer for Roof Tent

Question:
What system do you recommend for a 2022 Ford Explorer no sun/moonroof with a rooftop tent on it? We’re looking at the Roofnest Meadowlark XL as an option which is 100lbs. My second question is - I would assume that these roof racks cross bars or platforms would have to be rated for a total load capacity that includes the tent AND any people sleeping in the tent - is that correct?

Hey Latia, for a roof top tent the roof rack I would recommend for the raised rails of your 2022 Ford Explorer would be the Yakima HD Crossbar rack part # Y23NB which comes with heavier duty bars that are still aero shaped for better mileage and less wind noise. This rack has a 500 lb weight capacity which would work great for the weight of your tent and you. The capacities are also listed as dynamic capacities which means the weight it can carry when travelling down the road where there is bumps and hills/vallets etc.
