How To Wire The RV Propane Gas Detector RS44FR
Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/30/2025 >
Question:
Hi, I have the CCI PreTell 2 Lp Detector which has three wires, 2 red, one yellow. From the information I received at RV purchase it appears one red is from coach battery and one red is from house battery, yellow goes to a solenoid in th gas line at the tank. I plan to eliminate the solenoid, and install a new two wire detector. Should I combine the two red power lines and pigtail off a single hotinch power line for the new detector or just use one?

Hello Tim, thanks for reaching out. For the RV Propane Gas Detector # RS44FR the black wire is ground and the red wire is 12VDC power. The detector draws very little power, like 17 mA so connecting it to one battery will be fine. Generally, it would be easier to wire to the RV battery but either one would work. Connecting the two battery wires together would not be necessary.

Hey Tim, did you decide to connect the new detector to just one battery, and how did it work out for you? I'm asking because your experience could help others who are considering a similar setup.
