Do Trailer Hubs for 5,200 lb and 6,000 lb Axles Use Different Bearings

Published 06/19/2025

Question:

Hi, I have a question regarding Dexter 6 lug brake drums and hubs for the 5200 and 6000 pound RV axles. I understand the difference between the axles in the Camber Bend. That said is there a difference between wheel bearing size in the brake drum hub? Several have reported the the outside wheel bearing is larger on the 6000 pound axle vs the 5200 pound? Are the wheel bearings and races interchangeable between the two? Thank you, Jim

Hey Jim, the bearings between a 5,200 and 6,000 lb are the exact same BUT sometimes the grease seal inner diameter is different between the two which can be frustrating as there isn't a rhyme or reason for it that will predict when this is the case.

Are you looking for a replacement bearing kit?
