Recommended Tonneau Cover, Ladder Rack, Kayak Carrier, and Bike Rack for a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/17/2025

Question:

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic 5.7 Hemi Warlock with a 6 foot bed. I also have a Retrax One XR Tonneau Cover with T-Slot Rails. I also have a set of Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbars but I dont think I can use them for what Im looking to do. Im looking for a rack setup to hold 2 kayaks, and 2 e-bikes. I rather not have them all on just one rack, as Im worried about height clearance with the bikes. And Im not a fan side mounting them on a the kayak Rack, as Im worried about the width of my rig and the bikes being to close to other cars on the hwy. I cant use a hitch mount /rack, as I will be pulling a travel trailer as well. I was almost worried if I should use my existing cross bars to hold the bikes, and getting set of separate telescoping crossbars that will use T-slots as well for the kayaks? But then I fear the bikes wont fit underneath and may hit the kayak rack. Hoping you may have a better solution for me. Thanks for taking the time.

Hey Chad. Unless you take that tonneau cover off or leave it open you won't have enough room or capacity for two kayaks and two e-bikes above the bed of your Ram. Plus crossbar mounted bike racks like item # Y02103 top out at 30 lbs - 40 lbs. Unless you have the lightest e-bikes in the world you'll need to use a hitch mounted bike rack.

Since you're already pulling a travel trailer, I recommend using the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers item # 325-GH-515, which can also be used to mount a bike rack while pulling your trailer. Using this ball mount as a double stacked receiver will not reduce your hitch's capacity. It also gives you options for rise to clear your trailer jack and any tool boxes or propane tanks you may have. This ball mount can be used with a weight distribution hitch.

For a compatible bike rack, you'll want to use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack item # HLY84FR. It has an 80 lbs per bike capacity, works with tires up to 5" wide, and uses padded clamps to secure your e-bikes by their frames. This is great for bikes that have fenders as it completely avoids them. From the hitch pin hole to the farthest part of the rack will be 27-1/2". The bike rack also has a 7" rise.

For a ladder rack that connects to a Retrax One XR Tonneau Cover with T-Slot Rails item # RTT-80232, the Yakima OverHaul HD Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack w/ Tonneau Cover Adapters item # Y01151-5955 is the best option. This rack comes with 78" wide crossbars that have a 300 lbs capacity. The included adapter will connect directly to your T-Slot rails. Additionally, the uprights height is adjustable. This means the crossbars can sit 19" - 30" above your Ram's bed rails.

Since you're mounting kayaks on a ladder rack, I recommend using a saddle style carrier since because it will be easier to load and unload the kayaks. The Yakima Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs - Saddle Style w/ Rollers item # Y04083-04082 are going to be the best option for HD Bars. This carrier has a 80 lbs capacity and comes with felt pads that protect your hull and also help slide the kayak into position. The two Load straps with padded cam buckles and two bow/stern tie-downs will secure your kayak.

How heavy are your kayaks and e-bikes? You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.
