Recommended Jack w/ a Wheel for Moving Through Gravel

Updated 06/21/2025 | Published 06/17/2025

Question:

My Rockwood 1640LTD is light enough to move around by hand at the campsite using the caster wheel, but as it often digs in, any moving around can become difficult. Are there any other Castor-type wheel options for the tongue that would enable me to more easily move it at the campsite to fine-tune its position? Simply want better mobility on the campsite for my Popup. Suggestions?

Hey Dale. I really like the Ark Xtreme Off-Road Jack w/ 2 Wheels item # ARK99FR you were looking at. It's got treaded rubber wheels instead of formed plastic so it cuts through mud and gravel pretty easily. It bolts to trailer frames 2" to 6" tall with an included bracket.

What brand or model jack are you currently using? You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Have the standard jack with attached caster wheel that came with the Rockwood 1640LTD. It appears the recommended solution will allow me to leave the OEM jack on and bolt the new jack to the towing frame. Is that correct? Dale

@DaleB That is 100% correct. You can mount the Ark Xtreme Off-Road Jack w/ 2 Wheels item # ARK99FR on either side of your trailer's tongue wherever will be the most convenient for you. If you look at that picture I attached you can see the pipe mount for the original trailer jack about a foot back on the tongue.

@JerredH Only use my Rockwood 1640LTD Pop-up Camper a few times a year - $300 is an expensive option. My goal is to be able to move the Pop-up by hand very short distances to fine-tune it's placement on the campsite (generally bare ground, gravel) as well as adjust its position to hook it back up to my truck when I want to leave. Do you ever run sales or discounts on the ARK99FR?

@Dale The etrailer Boat Trailer Jack w/ 2 Wheels item # MJ-1500B-DWL is a less expensive option. It's got two caster wheels for better traction and comes with mounting brackets. I can't say when or even if the Ark Xtreme Off-Road Jack item # ARK99FR would go on sale. You'd have to check back periodically.
