Hello Mike, thanks for reaching out. The tab you mentioned on the Draw-Tite # 75601 hitch is used for mounting a bracket to hold your trailer wiring connection. So for example to mount a 4-flat plug you would use the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144. Basically it is just a provision for adding a bracket without any drilling. Not all hitches have them but this one does.
