Hey Gary,
I do not recommend using a weight distribution system, or bars if they are rated for less than what your tongue weight weighs in at. Even if its not by much you want to use a system that is rated for more than what your tongue weight is or equal to it.
If you have a way to move some cargo or items around in the trailer towards the rear, that is going to reduce your tongue weight. 40lbs is not that much if there is anything you are able to move towards the back that is going to help you out a ton. Doing that will allow you to use the system rated for 1,000lbs.
Is there anything you are able to move or shift towards the rear of the trailer?
