Is There Yakima MightyMount that Fits Thule Aeroblade Subaru Crossbar

Updated 06/10/2025 | Published 05/23/2025

Question:

I bought a used 2019 Subaru Outback Touring with flush rails and Thule towers and bars. Hoping to put all my old Yakima racks on it - formerly on round bars. Looks like a dealer accessory: 65484491/SOA567X020. Same as the Thule WingBar Evo? https://www.thule.com/en-us/roof-rack/car-roof-racks/thule-wingbar-evo-_-am711xxx Theyre 30 mm thick 1.18inch or 1-3/16 by 80 mm wide 3.15inch or 3-5/32. Based on these two answers, I tried Yakima Mighty Mounts size 39H, but theyre too small even with the shim removed. Either thats not the bars I have, or these answers are wrong. https://www.etrailer.com/question-653272.html https://www.etrailer.com/question-454548.html I also tried 29V - WAY too big. Could shim em up, but clunky... I found Subaru mounts for aero bars in different sizes. Heres an H and a V, but they look even smaller, I think theyre for the fold-out built-in bars on most Subarus. But they dont provide measurements. Oh, the sublime genius of the round bar - a universal mount that rotates 90º! Is there any hope of finding H- or V-type Yaki Mighty Mounts or similar one-piece plastic bands for these bars? The other option seems to be the Yakima universal mounts https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Yakima/Y03590.html These seem expensive, clunky, and fiddly/prone to failure with many small parts, and dont look lockable? In the customer photos with the Yakima ButtonDown ski racks like I have, looks like you need an extra adapter for the vertical mount replacement? I dont even see how the horizontal mount would work on these. Or I just give up and get Thule racks. Your thoughts?

Hey Dave, thanks for all of the info you mentioned. The type of Thule crossbar that you have now is their older Aeroblade bar. According to Yakima the only MightyMount that works with it is the Universal MightyMount part # Y03590 so that would be only solution for that. Unless you wanted to replace the roof rack or the carrier you have the MightyMounts I mentioned is only option. Let me know what you think would work best for you.

Hi Jameson - Thanks for the reply, and sorry for the TMI on my wild goose chase. Yes, I later realized I have the older AeroBlade (or possibly pre-Evo WingBlade) bars. They all have T-slots on top, although I see on other Q&A here that the newer bars have a channel that holds a split rubber strip so you can put the T-bolts in w/o cutting the rubber. It looks like the Yakima SmarT-Slot 2 # Y03098 could work. I read somewhere else that both Yaki and Thule T-slots take 20 mm square bolts. Then I could put FatCat ski racks on and at least stay all Yakima on top, so I can use one key on everything except the Thule feet, which I'll probably never move. My local REI has has the SmarT mounts in stock, so I'll try em on in the parking lot, easy return if they don't fit. I'll report back here on my findings. I'm not the only one trying to FrankenRack :-)

@Dave No worries! More background info is better than not enough. The top channels of all of the common roof racks are all the same thankfully. I think in your situation it really matters what carriers you have as to whether or not an adapter like the part # Y03098 could work. This was designed for Fatcat ski carriers whereas the MightyMounts are a bit more universal. Let us know how they work though!

@JamesonC OK! The Yakima # Y03098 mounts fit the Thule AeroBlade pretty well. The curve matches the profile of the top of the bar closely, and they have have tabs that sit in the slot that are not quite as wide as the slot, so I thought about shimming them but I'd have to cut the single rubber slot strip (the newer Thule areo bars have a split rubber slot so you can slide the T-bolts in & out w/o cutting the rubber). But then I thought I'll trim the tabs down and also remove a little more material in the curved underside of the mounts so they'll sit on the bar with the rubber strip still in the slot, then poke 3 holes in the strip at each mount, one for the T-bolt, two for the tabs. But that's fine tuning, they'll definitely work either way.
