Is a New Thermostat Required When Installing a GE AC Unit?

Updated 05/20/2025 | Published 05/16/2025

Question:

I already have a single stage thermostat on my wall, would I still need the GE installation kit for this unit?

Hey Tim, thanks for reaching out!

If you're replacing a GE AC unit, then the GE Appliances Deluxe Plus RV AC # GE64FR will work with your thermostat, but if you're replacing a different brand of AC with this GE, then we'll need to get you a whole kit.

You'll need the kit # GE35ZR if you have a ducted system (like in your house) or the kit # GE72ZR if you have a ductless system.

What AC unit are you replacing?

I have a dometic ducted system, has the same thermostat as the GE just black and says dometic instead of GE. It is on a 2020 Freedom Express Select Edition.

@TimE I believe you're talking about the Single Zone Thermostat for Dometic RV Air Conditioners # DMC79FR. While this does look similar, it is a different thermostat, so you'll need the whole GE kit.
