Solution for needing a Taller Ball Mount for a Weight Distribution System and Bike Rack

Updated 05/19/2025 | Published 05/15/2025

Question:

So using the GenY 325-GH-305 will give me a rise of 10. Im worried that I may need a little more rise to get over my weight distribution hitch for my bike rack that will be about 120 lbs rack and bikes. Is it possible to use both the 305 and a 325-GH-503 to get a few more inches rise?

Thanks for the picture Robert. That's not going to work but I have a solution that will. You can use the taller Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount item # 325-GH-506. It's got an extra receiver slot that will get your bike rack up high enough to avoid your weight distribution system.

How far back is the end of your shank from the hitch pin hole. The bottom receiver for the Gen-Y adjustable ball mounts like item # 325-GH-506 only have a depth of 2-1/4". The rest open up and a shank can stick through the back.

@JerredH The 307 is listed as a drop only, can I use that for a rise? For the 2.25 depth for the bottom slot on the 506, isn't there another pin hole that should fit my shank?

@RobertP Yes, for mounting a bike rack you definitely can use the Replacement Shank item # 325-GH-307 in that orientation. The rest of the receiver spots will work on the the Gen-Y adjustable ball mount item # 325-GH-506.
